faux pastiche

B-flat clarinet, violin, cello, piano (2001)

A pasticcio for New York City. Of the nine themes, three – collapse, aftermath, and revivification – connote the horrific events in that city on September 11, 2001. The “collapse” theme is but two measures, representing a brief if discombobulating interlude in the city’s collective continuum. A Vermont Contemporary Music Ensemble commission.
