Running Lights

B-flat clarinet, soprano sax, B-flat trumpet, marimba, violin, piano (1994)

Six different time signatures keep this tune’s driving rhythms honest. The Highway Patrol has warned that any performance of this piece outside of a legitimate music hall venue will be cited for speeding. A more demure version that takes half again as long to play called “Parking Lights” has been sanctioned for performance anywhere.  The sextet is one-sixteenth of the Somewhere East of Topeka compact disc.
